My New Look / Disguise — 0 for 2…

Met Jason for lunch today at Tina’s favorite watering hole — El Chico…  Never got a chance to see if the hair part-switch and pathetic excuse for a beard disguise would work as Jason spotted the Bush/Cheney bumper sticker on the back of my vehicle and I was busted…  Oh well, the hair part will probably keep — attempted beard growth — to be determined — we’re at nearly 4 weeks and just better than partial chin coverage…  Who knows ???  And for the most of ya…  Who cares ???  but I digress…

Good lunch…  Talked a little politics…  The web site — a few theories about the site…  Jason’s war with the local liberal Town Talk readership…  A few memory lane topics with a few "I didn’t know then’s"…  His work…  Family for both…  Pretty much what you would expect for a meeting of guys who haven’t seen each other for several years…

Got home and there in the hotmail e-box was an E  from Ricardovich Thompsoniovich  or known to most as Ricky Thompson…  Another "out of nowhere" addition to the site…  Turns out he obtained the web site address via double relay from a couple of NHYs (Not Here Yet)Chris Worth via Angie Whiteheadwhat makes this even more mysterious is I, your blogmaster, Supreme Creator, or as Peter Jurasak as Centari Ambassador, Londo Milari, would say on Babylon 5, "The Great Maker", haven’t heard from either of them…  I did send Angie (Angela) — [one of those grew up and knew them one way, and as the years passed the other name took, grew out of the semi-nickname / short name — best I can explain it] one of my thought to be failed Snail Mails  — see Oops…  I did it Again… (Jan ’07)…  Perhaps she knew before the postcard — (Assist for the find if indeed by  snail mail  goes to Reunion.com‘s People Search and the online White Pages)…  Perhaps one day, I will know…  Perhaps not…  Either way, I guess we can check off 2 more who know about our festivities…

Added another LOSTie  to the group last week — Lamarsha Meeks-Walker — provided an E-address via Classmates.com

Welcome Lamarsha and Ricky….  Look forward to reading more about you and your thoughts in the future…  E-addresses have been added to THS 88 Addresses as well as my group mailing list so they too will receive THS 88:  Briefs as they are done — for those not yet on the list or wish to have your e-address remain private, 3 things:
    1. I send THS 88:  Briefs as Bcc (Blind Carbon Copy) — so no e-address but mine is accessible…   You can be in the loop e-mail-wise without your e-address appearing on the web site…
    2. THS 88:  Briefs are archived at THS 88 @ Yahoo Groups…
    3. With all this typed, I’d still like to have your e-address — I might actually be interested in you !!!
Other news…
Amber tried out and commented on my Crock Pot Gumbo Recipe — Now for something totally different… (Dec ’06)
Errol Wilson extended Congratulations  (in Comments) to our latest THSpy Award  Winners (Nov ’06)…
Tracy Malone Enlow and Nikki Jones Spurgeon‘s efforts to track down Kathy Morgan-Sihan…  and we also have the IDEA in Denise Hearn Frieman Writes:  (Jan ’07

There’s always something at THS 88 on the Web and if not — suggest something — blog contributions or suggestions always appreciated….  And remember to invite those not listed here to visit.

Denise Hearn Frieman writes:

Kevin,

Do you have Kathy Morgan Sihan’s email address?

Also just a thought but how about coordinating a reunion of those who can attend one evening during the summer?  Not the extravagant weekend that will be held in 08; I’m only suggesting one Saturday evening in June or July…..

Give me your thoughts……

Denise Frieman

No info on Kathy Morgan Sihan via Net Detective…  Only info as to location is Reunion.com which says Pineville, LA..  Messages left there have gone unanswered…

As for a mini-reunion / get together for an evening during summer ’07, consider the discussion opened…   Feel free to express your interest and make your suggestions known here so response can be measured…

I’m Hands-off on this one…  I’ll Report what I hear, if anything — but THS 88 Decides…

Colts vs. Patriots: Peyton switches Gorillas…

had thought I would take care of my analysis of the NFC and AFC Championships in one Blog, but the Ms. Jenny encounter along with the Saints disappointment gave me ample time to type a couple of blogs prior to game 2…  Other game of interest today — Mavericks beat the Shaq-less Heat  99 – 93 to continue as Best in the NBA…

COLTS vs. PATRIOTS

This game started out looking very much like it could become a blow-out such as the NFC Championship Game between the Saints and da Bears, with New England jumping out to a 21 – 3 lead in the first half; running the ball at will and stopping any attempts to go deep by Peyton & Co…

Under 2 minutes of the first half — Colts drive and take a short FG to put points on the board prior to half-time…  New England 21  Indianapolis 6 at the half…  Colts open with the ball in the second half drive 7 minutes and score a TD to begin the scoring of the 2nd half ( 21 – 13 )…  Colts hold the Patriots to 3 and out — drive the field for another TD, go for 2 and we’re tied at 21…

Colts score to take 28 – 21 lead…  Tom Brady gets it tied at 28…  Patriots get a FG…  Colts get a FG…  Patriots get another FG with about 3 minutes remaining — Patriots  34  Colts  31…  Colts drive 80 yards and from 3 yards out with just over a minute to play Joseph Addai (1st Round Draft Pick out of LSU) goes untouched for the TD…  Extra point makes the score  Colts 38  Patriots  34…

Never underestimate Tom Terrific when the game is on the line, especially when he has 2 Time Outs…  Using the sideline to preserve the Time Outs — Brady moves the ball into Colts territory calling Time Out with :24 remaining — time — quick pass and Time Out and 2 or 3 shots at the end zone is the plan per Phil Simms…  Peyton Manning can’t even watch on the sidelines looking down at his feet as all he can do is wait…  Brady takes the snap in the shot gun — throws over the middle — INTERCEPTION !!!  Colts have the ball with :14 remaining…  Kneel Down — Game OVER…  Final score  Colts 38  Patriots  34

This game was indeed the shoot-out I predicted…  Got half of the Super Bowl finalists right…  Now words on Peyton Manning has the Gorilla of Greatest Quarterback not to have played in the Super Bowl off his back — Now it changes to "Winning the Super Bowl" — we’ll know in 2 weeks…

I’m going with the Colts over the Bears in Super Bowl XLI…

Am I that easy to Identify ???

Since my return to CENLA in June 2002, I have been identified by now 4 mates from the past..  I quickly knew who they were when they caught my attention, but I didn’t notice…

The rundown…
Jason Dukes has successfully identified me twice — once when we met at Chili’s for lunch (2003) and last June (2006) at Wally-world as I was walking by, I was wearing my Dallas Mavericks cap that day and got spotted…

Laura Free caught me at the Julie Ogden Benefit (Feb 2006) — I was in the process of walking right past her…

Julie Ogden @ the benefit though got my name wrong, but knew who I was that day as well…

and…

Sunday, January 21, 2007 at Super 1 Foods — I was spotted by Ms. Jenny Chandler-Gremillion — looking good for her age — JA !!  JA !! (don’t get upset Ms. Jenny, you made my "always liked list" back in January 06, M&L #2)…  Knew who she was when she called me out, but probably would not if she hadn’t spoken and smiled — easy smile to remember…  She was there with her daughter, Annie — a real cutie…
Anyway my question is — after 5 years Jason (last seen in ’98 — 10 yr Renuion) picks me out at Chili’s and then 3 years later at Wal-mart as I am walking by…  Laura after 18 years catches me walking right past her at THS…  Julie after 18 @ same…  and Ms. Jenny since the 10 in ’98 — and this time I was in disguise — I’ve started parting my hair to the other side (and yes, I have plenty) and I’ve attempted to see what some sort of beard would look like on me — that was 3 weeks’ of growthMs. Jenny — I’ve got partial chin coverage at best — clearly I would not win a beard growing with Osama / Usama — however they wish to spell that devil’s name…  How and why do people easily spot me ???

So people from the past can identify me but me not them…  The mystery of WHY ?? and HOW ?? continues…

Other news — Lacye has a new e-address — and now you know…  The rest of the story…

Saints vs. Bears: Turnovers, Weather, and Field Conditions…

End the United States Saints season in Chicago…  4 turnovers — need I say more…  Turnovers are always bad, but they can sometime be overcome…  Unfortunately, for the Saints their turnovers all occurred in Field Goal Range — pretty much ’nuff said…

T’was a day of sloppy footing at Soldier Field…  Took the Saints and Bears a while to adapt, but spotting da Bears 16 points is never a good thing to do…

As Troy Aikman said during the broadcast on FOX, "Jimmy Johnson used to tell us in Dallas it’s not necessarily the team with the most big plays, but team with the fewest mistakes who wins…"  also "… you can’t lay the ball on the ground in a championship game and expect to win…"

Some good highlights for the 2 Saint scoring drives — the first began with 1:55 remaining in the first half — 6 plays 78 yard and TD — drive time 1:10…  Second scoring drive early 3rd Quarter — 2nd and 5 from the Saints 12 — Brees drops back and lofts a pass to the left for Reggie Bush…  Reggie takes the ball 88 yards for the TD…

Saints came up short on a 51 yard FG attempt with the score 16 – 14…  Force a Bears punt — get pinned back to the 5 on the punt — intentional grounding called on Brees in the End Zone = Safety…  18 – 14 and the game was essentially over from that point…  Final Score   39 – 14…

It was the greatest season in Saintdom — though short of the dreamed goal, but what a turnaround and hope nucleus for the future…  Drew, Reggie, Deuce, Marques, Coach Payton — find a corner in the draft — get people back who were lost to injury, get some new personnel to help reduce the big plays and we’ll have exciting Saints Football for years to come…

I had typed Kyle that I believed the Saints could survive 2 big plays or 2 turnovers or a combination, but they had 5 Turnovers alond with as they say in real estate "location, location, Location" of those turnovers and their season has ended…

With all said and done…  It was a great year watching Saints Football…

More Saints stuff…

For the first time in the team’s history, the New Orleans Saints will play in the National Football Conference’s championship game against the Chicago Bears on Sunday. The winner will go to the Super Bowl.

The Saints have had a four-decade history of mostly failure and frustration. We’d like to hear your best Saints jokes, including those from the days when the Saints play inspired some fans to wear bags over their heads.

Saints Jokes

What do the New Orleans Saints and possums have in common?

Both play dead and get killed on the road.

A guy walks into a bar with a dachshund under his arm. The dog is wearing a Saints jersey and helmet, and is festooned with Saints pom-poms. The bartender says, "Hey! No pets are allowed! You’ll have to leave."

The guy begs him, "Look, I’m desperate! We’re both big fans, the TV’s broken at home, and this is the only place around where we can see the game."

After securing a promise that the dog will behave, and warning him that he and the dog will be thrown out if there’s any trouble, the bartender relents and allows them to stay in the bar and watch the game.

The big game begins with the Saints receiving the kickoff. They march down field, get stopped at the 30, and kick a field goal. Suddenly, the dog jumps up on the bar and begins walking up and down the bar giving high-fives to everyone.

The bartender says, "Wow, that’s the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen! What does the dog do if they score a touchdown?"

The owner replies, "I don’t know, I’ve only had him for three years."

Peyton Manning, after living a full life, died.

When he got to heaven, God was showing him around.

They came to a modest little house with a faded Colts flag in the window.

"This house is yours for eternity, Peyton," said God.

"This is very special; not everyone gets a house up here."

Peyton felt special, indeed, and walked up to his house.

On his way up the porch, he noticed another house just around the corner. It was a 3-story mansion with a black and gold sidewalk, a 50 foot tall flagpole with an enormous Saints logo flag, and in every window, a New Orleans Saints towel.

Peyton looked at God and said "God, I’m not trying to be ungrateful, but I have a question. I was an all-pro QB, I hold many NFL records, and I even went to the Hall of Fame."

God said, "So what’s your point, Peyton?"

"Well, why does Drew Brees get a better house than me?"

God chuckled, and said "Peyton, that’s not Drew’s house, it’s mine."

GO SAINTS GO !

Parents were taken into custody for beating their children.

They asked the little boy if he wanted to live with his mom.

He said, "no", because his mom beat him. He was then asked if he wanted to live with his Dad. He said, "no", because his Dad beat him too.
He was then asked who he wanted to live with.

He said, "The Saints; they don’t beat anybody!!!

Boudreaux died and was on his way down to Hell. In anticipation, the Devil turned up the thermostat to make it extra warm for Boudreaux.

When Boudreaux arrived, the Devil asked, "Hey Boudreaux, how do you like the heat down here?" Boudreaux says, "Mais, it’s just fine. It reminds me of Bayou PonPon in July."

That made the Devil mad. That night, he turned the thermostat up all the way it could go. Man it was hot! When Boudreaux woke up, the Devil asked him, "NOW how do you like it down here?" Boudreaux says, "Mais, it’s fine. It reminds me of August on Bayou Lafourche."

As you might expect, that made the Devil all the more mad. Well, that night, he turned the thermostat down all the way it could go! The whole place frosted over. Icicles started forming from the rafters.

When Boudreaux woke up, the Devil asked him, "How you like it NOW,Boudreaux?" Boudreaux, shivering, through blue lips, says, "Mais cher, I’m one happy Cajun!"

The Devil was infuriated! He yelled, "What do you mean you’re one happy Cajun?!!"

Boudreaux, still shivering says, "Da Saints done won da Super Bowl!"  AAAIIIEEEEEE !!!!

What’s the difference between the Saints and the Aint’s?

Our team without the paper bag.

"Our Saints, Our City, Our Soul"
Out of the fire
And up from the flood
A great team is born
Made of guts, steel and blood

Their history a low one
No one can deny
Their new rise a slow one
But oh now so high

This team that I speak of
Is of black and gold
And travels the gridiron
So brave and so bold

Their symbol is royalty
We call Fleur de lis
And proud New Orleanians
Watch it with glee

Come Deuce and come Reggie
Come Drew and come Joe
Come Marques and Terrance
Now go beat the foe

The course is set plainly
There is clearly a goal
Go show all the world
A storm can’t kill our soul

To the men in black jerseys
The tights and the cleats
Know that we love you
In wins and defeats

And to you, Sean Payton
The coach of our dreams
Thank you from all of us
Who give jumps, yells and screams

You have given us purpose
You have given us hope
You have given us will
And a reason to cope

To all of the Saints
Who reside in the Dome
Thanks for making our city
A proud place to call home

LET ME TELL YA; PROUD, BRAG, BLAB, BLOG, whatever…

Submitted by Patricia Prince Clark

Let me tell ya, my son, Devin is 12, he is a sports fanatic (football, baseball, basketball, etc), it doen’t matter what (prof., college, little league…).  He will come up with a play that the team might could do to turn things around to win, loves to agivate you about who is gonna win, what they should’ve done, he use to always have a pen and paper in his hand writing.  He, kept the faith with LSU, they succeeded. My son, watched that game on big screen T.V., at his best buddy’s house.  Devin’s best buddies are Tanner (Tammy Smith’s son) and Justin (belated: Tracy Vanderhoven’s son)..

LSU GAME, I watched half of it at Gator’s Sports Bar, on a biker night, with only one person driving a motorcycle that night.  We ate Supper there, All fans of LSU, there. We all rubbed the head of a Stuffed LSU Tiger for Good Luck, talk about a hoot!!! watching those men jump up out of their seats and hollering, clapping; you can’t help but get excited, too, lol!!!.  I watched the next half at home in bed..drifted off a time or two, until the last play, it was beautiful, I had to wake up for that.

He kept saying the SAINTS are going to make it. We’re proud of them making it this far, I hope so, it is well overdue.  (Remember when) Mike Ditka was coach, well, right after that he came to the Holiday Inn, Convention Center Downtown, where I was doing a temp job for Western Temporaries, worked in the back office where we (booked) reserved parties, mtgs and wrote contracts; anywho I, was able to get his autograph on a horn with pums pums in it and on a Program Sheet, that was on the tables for decorations.  Naturally, when I was in line he said after her (the girl in front of me in line);  I’m not signing anymore autographs, I said please it’s for my son, and he was nice enough to scribble, my sons’ name and his name and year, he put the cap on the permanent marker.  I guess I’m bragging, it meant a lot to me, right place at the right time in my life, I suppose.  It’s the one celebrity, I was fortunate enough to meet.

WOooouuuu!!, i can only imagine, what  New Orleans will be like, if they were to win!!!  They thought the hurricane did some damage, I bet there heads will be hurting from the SWELLED HEADS AND HANGOVERS!!!LOL.

They’re gonna PARTY LIKE CRAZY!!!    GOOD LUCK NEW ORLEANS, SAINTS!!!!!!!

Day 6: 24’s two Night Season Premier…

For those who may have missed it…  Tuesday, January 16, the 4-hour premier of 24 will be available on DVD at retailers nationwide…  That’s current season — having just aired the 2 previous nights…

For those not familiar with 24 the show’s setting is of the Los Angeles Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU)…  Each episode represents one hour of the same day — 24 episodes a season…  Day 1:  was a plot to kill a Presidential Candidate and Jack Bauer by Serbians; Day 2:  Combination of Islamic terrorists exploding a nuclear device on US Soil and the manipulation by oil interests; Day 3:  CTU attempts to recover a black market bio-weapon, using Mexican Drug Dealers, before it can be used on US Cities; Day 4:  Islamics attempt to meltdown the nuclear reactors at all 104 US Nuclear Power plants, and more…  Day 5:  Terrorists from Chechnya launch chemical attacks on the US and attempt to assassinate the visiting Russian President — and that’s just in the first 6 hours and does not begin to tell the plot twists to come…  FOX runs the series non-stop beginning in January with no repeats running through May sweeps…

Plot twists abound…  Last year’s Emmy for Best Drama — episode submitted for award — Hour 1…

Day 6:  Terrorist attacks on American soil (suicide bombers) for 11 weeks multiple cities, Jack released from Chinese prison and turned over to a terrorist who promises to give location of the leader of the attacks on America — a Marine Cobra Attack Helicopter strike is ordered, a presidential advisor advocating internment camps for Muslims…  The double cross / Jack’s escape…  And this is just the first hour…

Hour 4… Jack has to do the unthinkable in the name of the President to protect a terrorist ally…  A nuclear explosion in Valencia, CA just outside Los Angeles…  http://www.fox.com/24/episodes/

If you’re not watching — consider getting the DVD to enjoy the non-stop edge of your seat action…

Great Weekend in the NFL…

I realize that there are many out there who don’t particularly care for my football commentaries — but it’s not like anyone addressed any of my other topics — some were quite good — so in my efforts to keep the site fresh another installment of:  What interests Kev…

To start out the NFL should be pleased as all games in this Divisional Playoff weekend were competitive and went to the last 3 minutes or less to determine the winner…
Indianapolis Colts  15   Baltimore Ravens  6
Talk all you want about defense winning championships, but you need an offense that can at least give them something to defend…  Adam Vinatieri did exactly what the Colts got him for…  Make the big kicks (5 of 5) in the clutch — and there is no better clutch kicker come playoff time in the League — possibly the history of the League…

New Orleans Saints  27   Philadelphia Eagles  24
This is actually the same score as their meeting in Week 6, but this time the Saints did not have to hold the ball and drive for the winning field goal…  Got dicey around the 3 and a half minutes or so to go Saints trying to run out the clock, ball around the Eagle 40 and St. Reggie fumbles the pitch on 3rd down — Eagles recover down by 3…  Defense holds the first 3 downs — on 4th and 10 Jeff Garcia completes a 25 yard pass but there is a flag — false start Eagles — the crowd noise finally got a jump at the most crucial of times — then the biggest coaching error by Andy Reid — he punts…  Big mistake — Saints give the ball to Deuce McAlister the first down and run out the clock for the victory…  Who Dat !!!

Chicago Bears  27   Seattle Seahawks  24  in OT
Rex Grossman was shaky at times but delivered big plays when needed including the 38 yard completion in OT to set up the winning field goal…  The Seagulls would have been loved in Saintsland as their victory would have put the NFC Championship game in the Dome…

New England Patriots   24   San Diego Chargers  21
I know I have previously stated at this site that I believed the Chargers to be the best team in the League, but I never, ever, underestimate Tom Brady when the games on the line…  Give him a minute or more with only a field goal to win — he will beat you…  This time he had 3:48 — and did his thing…  Will have to watch the highlights as 24 had started and I do not miss 24…
Personal Preview of the Conference Championship games and thoughts…
Saints @ Bears…  Early game on FOX
Would have preferred the Seagulls in the Superdome, but I believe the Saints have the edge going in…  More consistent play at the Quarterback position as well as fearless playcalling by Sean Payton…  I don’t think the cold will bother them — Just don’t kick it to Devin Hester…  Saints win — and go to the Super Bowl in Miami…

Patriots @ Colts…  Late game on CBS
Brady vs. Manning in the AFC Championship — a little different this time as this game will be played inside the climate controlled RCA Dome and not the wintery openness of Gillette Stadium…  Actually the Colts have won the last 2 regular season meetings in Foxborough so that mystique no longer holds…  Can Peyton Manning finally win the big one and put up the numbers all are accustomed to seeing or will he continue his course to possibly being the greatest Quarterback never to have won a Super Bowl…  TBD…  This game is a close call, but I think the Colts can do it…

I know I said Colts, but I would prefer the Patriots for the Saints in the Super Bowl…  I think the Saints match up better with the Patriots…  The big play ability of the Colts frankly scares me to death with the Saints defense — if Peyton Mannings gets his Super Chance against the Saints we could very well see a few Super Bowl passing records fall…  The Saints can respond to 2 big plays, but if you get 3 or more as the Colts are capable…  Ouch…

I think Drew Brees (though no rings) matches up well with Tom Brady (3 rings) and the Saints D can contain most of New England’s offense…

Again — Would prefer  Saints vs. Patriots but we’ll probably get  Saints vs. Colts in Super Bowl XLI…
