Last Word: Informal / UnOfficial 20n08

Thanks to all who attended and made our little get together a success…  I have all my pics in Photos and mostly labeled — will continue to work on that — if there are any of there you have suggestions for captioning, just e-mail me with the pic# and what you’d like posted….  Also, I’m interested in your pics from the various events — send ’em, I’ll post ’em

Jason Dukes has suggested in comments in to blog And it shall come to pass, on the 24th and 25th… that we make such a gathering an annual event — perhaps that could happen…  We’ll decide on that later based on interest and other factors…
we

There were a few anxious moments — @ City Park & Zoo, for a while there it looked like just Ricky and his crew and myself, then a mini-van appeared — "who’s that ???", says Ricky as he passes a football to his son…  Then your blogmaster recognizes "the walk"  — "looks like Chip" and indeed it was…  Those there had a great time — this is an event, if we do this whole thing again, can be done better with a little coordination…  Then there was arriving @ Tunk’s, a little late, and walking into an empty room — after a few minutes our waitress tells me others have already arrived and went downstairs for drinks and are outside…  Good food, good drink, and good friends…  T’was indeed a good day…

Let’s close this out with a few of e-mail clips received and then I can get one or two Presidential politics blogs in before the election…
Thanks sooo much !! I had a great time the at our get together. It was great to see everyone!!

Theresa Welch Peters

Can’t wait to see the pics had a great time with you guys!!!

Jackie Hooter Harvey

Thanks for all you have done.  Everything was great.  I hope that everyone had as much fun as I did.  I can’t wait to see the pictures.
Michelle Rollins Shelton
Thanks again all…

And it shall come to pass, on the 24th and 25th…

days of the tenth month of the year or our Lord two thousand and eight, that the Tioga High Class of 1988 will assemble for a rather Informal / UnOfficial gathering of classmates long separated by time and distance…

OK — it’s not quite prophesy — actually not at all…  Just seemed like a rather interesting opening for this blog to simply declare…

We Did It !!!

Yes indeed, it did indeed happen — a gathering of friends of old…  True it was mainly locals, but we did have travelers from afar…  Chip and Angie Durham from that vast swamp land of Thibodaux…  Stephanie and Tanner Mattison from some Plano place in Texas — to clarify you may remember her as Stephanie Piper, Stephanie King, Stephanie McKenzie, that #$@% Stephanie, etc — or in the case of THS 88 on the Web, one of our most valuable early contributors providing contact info which would lead to others being found and getting this whole thing going…  and our long distance travel winner, Suzy Sanderson Eddleston traveling from around the Bend, Oregon…

To get everything covered in some semblance of order, I’m gonna break it down the festivities into sections…

Overview:
Although things and events were pretty much thrown together on the fly so to speak, festivities were enjoyed by all…   This was indeed a busy weekend both locally and down Baton Rouge-way with Monster Trucks @ the Rapides Parish Coliseum, Ultimate Fighting @ Riverfront Center, Movie with shooting Rene Zellwegger @ Buhlow, and that mauling @ Tiger Stadium as LSU got routed by Georgia — not all of these had a effect on turn-out, but LSU, Ultimate Fighting, and possibly Monster Trucks for which members had already committed definitely did — especially LSU vs. Georgia…

Of attendees, two families are Expecting additions next year — Jason and Erin Dukes, a single, and Stephanie and Tanner Mattison, a double…  I don’t know how much of this I’ll be doing here after the first of the year, but let me know when the blessed day arrives and I’ll post a notice — and pics if you send ’em…

In the blog below this one, we have regrets expressed as being unable to attend…

Now I guess it’s time to get on to actual reporting of events….
2008 Homecoming Pep Rally:
This was an event that didn’t get promoted very well for a combination of reasons…  1) it wasn’t part of the original plans for 20n08, 2) I didn’t put much thought into it, and 3) I got notice of it after 7 PM on Thursday night…  Missed the Homecoming parade which was Thursday — didn’t know about this one — short parade route according to Michelle Rollins Shelton — started @ the High School and journeyed on over to the stadium…  As Michelle said, “barely long enough to crank the convertible”…

Back to the show…  Got to the school where and ended up meeting up with Jackie Hooter Harvey and Gracie, Michelle with Megan (previous photos under I belong to…), and Angela Renbarger Morrison — I think I saw all her sons currently attending THSAngela, I’d like a pic of you and your sons to post in the Pep Rally Photos…

Pep Rally itself was rather bland…  Course with introduction of Homecoming Court, complete with their lists of likes dislikes, what they’re involved with, etc., does not necessarily make for good TV…  The Court Rejects were with names Britney, Madonna, Lindsay, and Paris…  Pics for all of this in the photos…  Jackie had a niece on the court — some of youse people are getting old…  They had a brief Florida recount on the Class Float competition regarding the 1st (Freshmen) and 2nd (Seniors) place but as they say in the NFL — after further review, “the play stands as called” — Freshmen win…

Head Chief, THS Principal Kim Hutchinson, now Kim Bennett, I guess since it’s been 20 years we can just call her Kim — heck she’s only like 5 years older than us anyway — presented the football coach the game ball complete with score displayed for the previous victory over ASH — 59 to 46 or something close to that — poor defense or special teams on both sides is what that says to me…

Rally ended with Class Chant-off — Slay the DeRidder Dragons — seniors won, but overall I thought it was weak…

Michelle and I both agreed the Rally seemed a little weak…  Event covered and documented…  We’ve got pics in photos…

Friday night Lights on the reservation:
Gee…  Haven’t been to a THS football game since… eh… umm… errr…  Homecoming 1998…

Pretty good turnout for the game…  The no organized seating section seemed to have been a problem early on, but eventually we got mostly together in the season ticket holders section right on the 40 yard line…

Attendees included:  Jackie Hooter Harvey and daughter Gracie, Michelle Rollins Shelton with daughter Megan, Theresa Welch Peters, Beck Bunting Malcomb with husband Stan and her 2, Darin Malone, Stacey Chellette, Tammy Smith, THS 88 on the Web Contributor — Patricia Prince Clark, Jason and Erin Dukes, Phillip Bergeron and one of his sons, Kim Lowery Wagner with Anna and Will (photos also under Who’s the Blonde Chick ???), Ricky Thompson, Traci Jo Wherle, Suzy Sanderson Eddleston, Randy Mehling, Tracy Malone Enlow and her kids, Becky Brinkerhoff was there too but I missed her, that’s all who are on the top of my head, probably will add more after I get back to selecting and posting pics…

Game was pretty good — THS won — you always want to win Homecoming…  THS took the opening kick-off and drove downfield for a Touchdown…  On the ensuing kick-off DeRidder ran it back for a score, but luckily he stepped out of bounds…

Finally had a chance to meet Jason’s wife Erin…  Phillip tells me that THS Classes 87, 89, and 92 — maybe others, wish they had a web site such as THS 88 on the Web — I knew about 87 and 89 as I knew they knew about us — 87 via Julie Ogden and others, and 89 from John Gremillion

Ended up staying after the game through the band presentations for both schools, with Jason, Erin, Suzy, and Lisa for some amusing conversation…

Final score from the Reservation — THS 51  DeRidder  21

Picnic & Family day @ City Park & Zoo:
Even with its early start time of 11 AM, this event got killed by competing events, notably LSU vs. Georgia with its 2:30 kick-off…  Got word via E-mail that some of LSU faithful, Angie Whitehead Verzwyvelt, Della LaCroix Morris, and Jenny Chandler Gremillion had their own mini reunion as a tailgate party…

Attendees here:  Chip and Angie Durham with daughter Carlee, son Ty, and 8 month old daughter Jordan…  Rhonda Malone Worsham changed e-addresses on me and sent me an E-mail that AM also appeared with her kids and Tracy Malone Enlow and kids in tow…  Phillip and Angie Bergeron and their 3 boys came as well…  And for the Zoo portion we were joined by Nikki Jones Spurgeon, her husband, and daughter Madison

Good time visiting…  Weather was great, clear and sunny skies temps in the 70’s…  Walk through the zoo not bad…

Derek Farris also hosted a game viewing party at his house — results of the game were not as desired, but I understood they had a good time…  Pics from that event would be appreciated…

The main event — Dinner & Drinks @ Tunk’s:
Ran a little late getting to Tunk’s as filming @ Buhlow Lake stopped traffic — guess they didn’t want the roar of cars going by messing with their filming…  Got to where I could do a less than legal U-turn and took the expressway…  Got there to an empty room — this is great !!!  Then was informed by our waitress Kristen, though Traci Jo would later call her — Elizabeth, Lindsay, and about 5 other names — that early arrivals were downstairs at the bar — actually they were out on the patio / deck, whatever you want to call it…  We had Traci Jo, Michelle Zamanian Millard, Tamara Cutts King, Suzy Sanderson Eddleston, Becky Bunting Malcolm and her husband Stan…  Kim Lowery Wagner aka Mrs. Sheriff, called Traci prior to arrival and Traci went into a bit about Suzy got drunk hit her head, paramedics and all and the possible need of changing event locations — of course none of it was true…  Stephanie and Tanner arriving and many not knowing who she was until she spoke — their expecting family addition was easy to tell, course we would learn it was actually additions…

Ended up with a pretty full room…  Drinks, photos from the 10 passed around…  Got a full pic of those classmates in attendance in the photos, or coming in photos, depends on when you read this…  Antics from both Traci Wherle and Derek Farris provided additional entertainment for all…

9:15ish or so many of us worked our own way down to the oyster bar for further interaction, music, drinking, etc…  By chance, accident, luck, whatever you want to call it we found a LOSTie Kathy Morgan-Sihan…  Ended up shutting the place down…  Staying talking with Jason and Jackie to around midnight…  Good time…

The Wrap-up:
Despite the conflicts with LSU, Ultimate Fighting, Monster Trucks, Picnic vs. Tiger game party, we had a good time that was relatively easy to put together and could possibly be done easily again I the future with a little more coordination…  No complaints here…  It was good to see you all…  Perhaps we’ll do it again sometime…

“Wishing I could have been there for Informal / UnOfficial 20n08…”

from e-mails received expressing regrets for not being unable to attend our festivities…

Hey Kev,

Just wanted to let you know we won’t make it to the reunion after all.  Figured you would want an accurate count on who to expect.  My fiancée’s shift got changed at the Fire Department and looks like he will be working all weekend here in Arkansas.  We are really disappointed but that’s life, I guess.  He was especially looking forward to it since he is a 1989 THS graduate (Jimmie Bryan) and hasn’t seen many of his classmates since moving to Arkansas right after graduation. Anyone, we hope ya’ll have a great time.  Maybe we can catch up with everyone next time.

Mindy

Good evening Kev,

I will not be able to make it…sorry.  Work is calling me.  Have fun!

Kevin,

Don’t count me in the official head count. I might be able to make only the Saturday evening gathering, but would not arrive until 9-9:30. I’M GOING TO THE GAME! GO TIGERS!!!! If I don’t make it to the unofficial reunion; I look forward to seeing everyone at the next gathering. Best wishes!!!

Denise Hearn Frieman

Hey Kevin.

Thank you for putting all this together.  You have had a lot dumped on you and you have done a good job.  I just want to let you know so you would have a head count for Saturday that I will not make it for the dinner.  I have previous plans and as of right now I am going to try and make it for a little while, but will not be eating a meal.  I will more than likely be at the game.  I have a hard time making plans because my husband is a electrician offshore and he is gone right now and we have no idea when he will be home.  between us we have 6 kids and I don’t know which ones I will have at this point.  And to top all of that off I am in the process of moving and if my husband comes home this weekend we are going to have to try and get all of that done before he has to leave again.  I know you really wanted to hear all of that.  hahaha

I look forward to seeing the ones that can make it Friday.  hopefully they will have a good game like last week.

Kristi Lawson Dauzat

Hey Kev

I was waiting until last minute to RSVP to see how me and my son are feeling from the accident.  I am not up to  the drive down there.  My hands and arms still go numb easily especially when driving.

Tell everyone I said Hello

Jenn

You just did cuz !!!  But I’ll let them know in person anyway…

I’m so disappointed that I will miss this gathering!  Please take pics and share!

Have a great time!

looks like someone got married and didn’t tell !!!  Congrats !!!

Hey, thanks weather man.  Wish I could be there.  I’m taking a grad class this semester, and it’s a killer.  The current temp here in Iowa is 36.

Hey Kev,
Here is some info that may or may not be helpful to you all (LSU game time link).  I can’t make it cause I’ll be working.  Hope everyone has a good time!

THS 88: FINAL Plans set for UnOfficial / Informal 20n08

OK, the plans are set for our little Informal / UnOfficial gathering of THS 88 this weekend, October 24 and 25…
Friday, October 24:
For those who can make it…  Friday Night Lights @ the Home Coming Game…  No section reserved as far as I know — I didn’t do it –call my cell 318-730-3259 and once we’re there we’ll figure out where to sit…  Game Time 7 PM
Saturday, October 24:
11 AM:
Family Gathering and Picnic (bring your own food and drinks) Alexandria City Park and Zoo with Zoo walk around 1 PM.

6 PM:
Dinner @ Tunk’s on beautiful Kincaid Lake — We’ll start out in the restaurant…  I’ve made arrangements just need an accurate  head count by Friday.  Bring the kiddies, if you like, just let me know now many…   As I’ll be calling Tunk’s with final figures Saturday, AM…

Also this allows us to invite others from other classes (I.e. seen at the game) for these festivities — it’s been 20 years — I just need a head count…  This is dinner so come to eat and drink…  We can migrate to the oyster bar, outside, etc. as the evening progresses…
Family gathering and picnic is essentially Free — Zoo fees are $3 for Adults and $2 for children…  Train ride tickets available @ the Zoo…

Call or E-me if you have any questions…

Informal / UnOfficial 20n08: Just short of final plans…

Overall the "Rough Plan" communicated before is pretty close to what we’re going for…  CBS has not I released its game selection for Saturday, but I’m still betting on Georgia vs. LSU for the 2:30 telecast (confirmed)…  The other option was / is Tennessee vs. Alabama, but Tennessee is 0-3 in the SEC — if this game is chosen and LSU is the late game, perhaps some of our local LSU faithful could join us for the picnic portion of our festivities — should know this by Monday afternoon…

Anyway the plan for Friday, October 24 and Saturday, October 25…

Friday Night Lights aka Football Game for all who can make it…  I’m not calling to reserve a section — if anyone is interested in doing that, feel free to let me know and I’ll relay according…  Again, my cell # is 318-730-3259 or E-me by Wednesday…

Saturday’s Family Gathering and Picnic (bring your own food and drinks) @ City Park or Zoo Picnic area around 11 AM with Zoo walk around 1 PM or sooner.

Dinner @ Tunk’s 6 to 6:30, probably start @ 6 to who knows when…
The Picnic is free for all — only fees will be for the Zoo walk $3 for Adults $2 for kids and train ride tickets if you so choose…

All of our program is open to all locals and those who will be in the area for this weekend…  Only thing I really need is an idea of how many to arrange for @ Tunk’s…

Final arrangements with Tunk’s have not been made so I need an idea on a number — right now we’re looking close to 30 (with spouses) — if my interpretation of responses has been correct…  Also checking on "kids allowed @ Tunk’s on Saturday" as that has been brought up (bar, Saturday clientele, etc.) — if no problems with the restaurant by all means bring ’em, but let me know so I can reserve the spots — again, something I should know by Tuesday — and I’ll e-mail the notice…

Where we stand with UnOfficial 20n08

Put simply Friday night is the easiest part of this whole thrown together gathering — as the when and where has already been determined…  Show up to the game and have a cell phone number or two that everyone can use to find who’s all there…  Mine is 318-730-3259  (highlight that blank)(— don’t worry about running me out of minutes as I have more than enough anytime minutes (new month just started, almost 3000 in Roll-Over — I should have bought a pre-pay Tongue out )

The tricky part is Saturday, working around the LSU game with air time up in the air so to speak (yes it’s a big game but I could take it or leave it)…  Actually, after checking the SEC schedules for this day, Georgia vs. LSU is definitely the best game of the day, so we can probably figure 2:30 broadcast as College Football Today aka CBS’ pre-show begins @ 2…  Figure in 4 hours for the game and we’re to 6:30, which is where the conflict lies with securing the restaurant seating on a Saturday night…  So even if we accepted Derek’s offer of the game at his place, which allows for bringing the kiddos, we’d have a time problem with dropping the kids off at mom and dad’s etc…

For the most efficient use of time, I’m leaning toward having an earlier family time, say 11 or 12 at City Park and the Zoo — they have picnic areas and that will give the young one’s space to run around etc and a base of operations — essentially "bring your own eats and drinks" like planned before, but this put us all in the same location to see one another with families..  Then around 1 make a run through the zoo…  This all works well if it doesn’t rain…

For night time festivities — Tunk’s seems to be the overwhelming choice, though I have been warned that it is a "start of the night hotspot" on Saturdays — so we’ll have to reserve space and make sure we fill it as not to disrupt their business, and allow for seating us together…  I don’t know how long we’ll be there, or how early anyone likes to eat on the weekend or how late you want to take it — once we’re there we can stay as long was we continue to buy food and drinks…  Any objections to 6 or 6:30 start time…

So far it we’ve got about 20 – 25 people total interested in this part so we’ll need some sort of head count to reserve space — this is still open to all who are in the area or will be in the area, just trying to get us seated at least mostly together…

Derek, thanks for your most generous offer to host the Tiger Game viewing, but time is not on our side since we have to deal with a restaurant…

OK the rough plan going into this weekend is as follows…
Friday Night Lights aka Football Game for all who can make it…

Saturday’s Family Gathering and Picnic @ City Park or Zoo Picnic area around 11 AM  or 12 PM with Zoo walk around 1 PM.

Dinner @ Tunk’s 6 or 6:30 to who knows when…
That’s the plan as of this AM…  Those who haven’t reply back to let me know if you’re interested in the Tunk’s portion of our program so I can call to make arrangements…  The Picnic is free for all — only fees will be for the Zoo walk $3 for Adults $2 for kids…

Should have final plans set by Monday or Tuesday…  You’ll know here @ THS 88 on the Web

Denise Hearn Frieman – reunion rant.

Kevin,

We need someone to step in and make a game plan. I know it’s hard to do with unknown numbers of attendance and awaiting the announcement of the LSU game time. However, we will more then likely continue to have people make suggestions but never accomplish any sort of set game plan. Since you have always been our glue in keeping those of us connected through your THS 88 on the web, I nominate you to make a plan. If you are not willing or choose not to take this task on, how about Jen, Michelle, Jackie; whom ever is on the reunion committee step in. We just need someone to take the task and run with it. Make the plan, and those of us who want to attend confirm by email.

i.e.… Friday night – Football game, meet at the stadium and sit in a determined section.

Saturday afternoon; if the game is televised at or around 2ish either take Derek up on his offer to meet at his house or look into one of the public lakes around the area. I believe that the lakes will have public bathrooms and usually a covered pavilion.

Saturday night – Tunks. If it’s a night time game, I’m sure that they will have it on at the restaurant. From what I remember they have a bar with outside patio access and usually a band. Just options, but we need a coordinator. Those who can or would like to attend any or all simply respond.

I know I may be coming across a little strong but it’s not my intent to make anyone of you feel uneasy. I will not be able to get back into town until Saturday afternoon, hope to see a few of you Saturday evening.

(P.S. Kevin if you find this email offensive, please do not post. If you find it to be acceptable, then please post and cut out my p.s. message.)

Denise Frieman

THS 88: 20n08 Non-Formal Possibilities…

I’m game…  Put something together and I’ll broadcast it through E-mail relay and THS 88 on the Web…

Kev

I would love to get together anytime. Just let me know when.

Thanks.

Suzy Eddleston

I will not be in town until that night about 9:30p but I would love it if we could get together after the game or maybe dinner Saturday night.  Anyone game???

Stephanie Mattison  — from E-mail to THS 88

I am planning on going to the homecoming game.  I believe it is at 7:00.  If some of you will be there, it would be great to sit together and have a good time watching the game and visiting with each other.  Maybe we could meet somewhere at the high school and walk over to the game.  Just an idea.

Philip Bergeron — from E-mail to THS 88

Hello all

Sorry for the delay I was in a wreck last week and am moving slower that usual.?

We gave the mail and emails through Saturday and we only had 20 couples.? Unfortunately, that is not enough to have a formal reunion. I really hate it but I know it is so hard at this time in our lives with family, kids, and careers to get away.?

I encourage those of you that had planned to come in – to contact others in the class and meet up for a meal or drinks.? We don’t have to have anything formal to stay in touch with our classmates.? Kevin has done an amazing job of centralizing contact info.? Send out a few emails and have a small "informal" reunion.

Best of luck to all and we will try this again soon.

Informal Reunion proposals from both Phil Bergeron (lunch or something Tunk’s) and Derek Farris (LSU Game @ his place) (details in comments), if anyone wants me to forward an idea, send it to me and I’ll e-it out…  Also, if you’re planning to be in town anyway, let somebody know…  I’m open to whatever…

Man did the Tigers get it handed to them in "The Swamp" you can’t spot a team like Florida 17 points and expect to win very often…  Looks like a repeat National Championship is out…  Both Florida and LSU still have to play Alabama for the SEC South Championship — both have 1 loss in the SEC…  Right now I’m thinking National Championship with be between Big 12 Champion and Penn State…

Saints exploded in the second half vs. the Raiders…  Drew Brees is "the Man" — it is so refreshing for the Saints to have a QB just entering his prime…  Also his top 3 receivers, Colston, Patton, and Shockey were all inactive with injuries and he still threw to 9 different receivers…  @ Carolina Sunday…

Personal tragedy stinkin’ up that Cleco test…  T’was a good opportunity…  E = IR and other electrical equations were all scrambled in me head…  If my guesses weren’t good enough, I can take the testing again in 3 months…  Haven’t felt this brain scrambled since the ACT…  If they do call, I’ll gladly answer…  Shaved off my sorry excuse of a beard for this…  Too bad there wasn’t a best dressed category…

Don’t know what to do with this thing…  It’ll stay around as long as Live Spaces remain…  I’ll update e-addresses as and if they become available, but after the first of the year, I don’t know…  If anyone is interested in either taking over or blogging occasionally, let me know, I can set you up so you can blog via e-mail or turn it over to ya — whatever…
