THS 88: September 2010 News and such…

Yes, it’s your September 2010 E-Letter – whether you like it or not…

THS news of the moment…

Friday, October 1st:  THS Homecoming and THS Alumni Tailgate party
No plans of any sort planned here.  Tennessee @ LSU, Oct 2

Thinking of adding another module to THS 88 on the Web (not that anyone goes there anymore) Friends of THS 88if you non-THS 88ers wish for your E-address to be listed, you too can have a listing, let me know – interest will determine…

Just some me news for a moment…  Took mom to Alexandria Indoor Range last week, actually she accompanied me in my shooting excursion, but I digress…  She was shooting her 9, me my 45s, 40, and dad’s old 22…  She had some trouble grouping, tried to blame the gun – I took 3 shots with her’s, placed them within an inch – not the machine — must be operator error…  Had a good day – on those occasions where I had a flyer or just placed a random shot on target, I’d use that as my aim point for the next set with the 22 – 2 inch and less 10 round clusters – had one set with a 4 shot string from the 22, I put 2 of the 4 in the 45 hole — 1 inch group…  Big thing, and first time in a long time – mom actually acknowledged, I actually knew what I was talking about…

Thursday, September 9th  We’ll turn this one over to Faith Hill — some rendition of this around 7:20 PM CDT…

All right football fans here we go…
Kick up your feet for the ultimate show…
You want the big game, well we want it too
Hey Jack it’s a fact the Champs are in town
The Saints and the Vikings in a Classic Showdown
The dome is rockin’ time to crank up the sound…
The NFL’s best have come out to play
For every fan there’s just one thing left to sa-aaaaaaaaay
I’ve been waiting all year for Opening Night
The Saints and the Vikings in a Prime Time Fight
The last one standing gets to turn out the lights
Cause I’ve been waiting all year for Opening Night…

Opening Night Football on NBC
Favre and Brees throwing TDs
The players are ready, kick the ball off the Tee
Cause the NFL rocks on NBC

Quick <> to The Beginnings…

Welcome new…  Welcome old…  What started out long ago as a quest for an E-list for THS 88, grew somewhat…

This blog’s purpose is serve as a Welcome to the Site conduit, always appearing on the first page, providing quick and easy access to the original 3 blogs of this project we know as:

THS 88 on the Web
And so it Begins… — the blog that started it all << CLICK >> And So it Begins… anywhere in this blog or you can access it via The Beginnings — 19 member comments posted to this blog)

Where is____??? Have you seen heard/from ____???  The first blog seeking info on "LOST" classmates.

Where I’ve been…  Where I am…  (27  Post-grad Histories — 25 in comments, mine in the blog, Stephen Higuera’s in comments under And so it Begins, and Chip Durham’s Nicholls State University bio by clicking on his name under THS 88 Addresses it could be argued that makes 28)…  A few others have appeared at that "other"  location — Ben Bordelon has a blurb on the THS 88 @ Yahoo Groups site — message # 29So much for keeping these post-HS stories together
UPDATE:
March 23, 2008:  I copied and pasted all the WIB…  WIA… – type postings from their various locations to THS 88 on the Web, so they are now all here on this site…  I’ve also added from my e-mail archives

June 2, 2008:  Reunion date posted under Guestbook to the right…  Reunion information added as it becomes available — all blog containing information regarding 20n08 are in Category Reunion Talk.

Informal / UnOfficial 20n08 Formal plans for the 20 year gathering fell through, so we did something Informal and UnOfficial…  Read about it under Informal / Unofficial 20n08 — we also have pics in Photos…  Some people are wanting to do a gathering such as this every 3 months or so — we’ll see / let me know kmax2k1@hotmail.com
New Arrivals aka "LOST" THS 88’ers and "friends of THS 88 too", please note the Guestbook to the left and drop us a note and / or your E-address, and be sure to read And so it begins… — the blog that started this monster… We’d like to read from you too here @ THS 88 on the Web (the site that started it all)…  It’s great to have you and I hope you enjoy.

Although January 1, 2009 marked the end of the official run of THS 88 on the Web as to blogs and updates, there is still lots of interesting prose and info regarding many of our old mates…  E-addresses continue to be updated as they are changed or acquired — started this thing with less than 15 and now have over 100…  Enjoy it !!!  Use it !!!  Ignore it !!!  Abuse it !!!

THS 88 OTW: It is… What it IS !!!

What you have reached is the grandest and most complete site on the greater World Wide Web devoted to the Tioga High School, Tioga, Louisiana, Class of 1988…  Here you will find over 100 means of contacts (123 listed — figure 5 – 10 have changed — still not too bad) for our lost mates of old under THS 88 Addresses to the left.

This site began with much fanfare with the initial blog And so it Begins…  (for some freaky reason can only be accessed via link here or below in Popular blogs) with excitement and growth…  (the earliest blogs can be reached easily by clicking on The Beginnings

I started this thing with about 15 E-addresses and quickly grew to near 50 — And so it Begins… tells the complete story of start-up.  Some other notable aspects of the site.
BLOGS
  • Where I’ve been…  Where I am…  Over 40 post-HS life summaries
  • Back in the Day…  Our own little version of VH1’s, I Love the 80’s
  • Monica & Laura Pick the Topic…  A catch all of questions about the past and present…
  • First Year Favs…  A look back at the first year of this site…
  • Informal / UnOfficial 20n08 plans for our 20 year reunion fell through but we gathered anyway — we have pics (photos, scroll down right side, home page…)
  • and much, more…  hell, I did this thing for just over 3 years….
PHOTOS
  • I belong to…  Name whose kid that is…
  • Informal / UnOfficial 20n08 – Photos of Homecoming 2008 pep Rally and game, Day @ City Park and Zoo, and our gathering @ Tunk’s.
  • other stuff too…  There’s like 5 albums…
Although I’m not actively blogging here anymore since retiring with our entrance into 2009, I do update E-addresses as they change and come available.  I also occasionally post a political article to the site.  Though participation as hope for never materialized — it’s still a pretty good site…

As the subject line suggests…  It is… What  IT  IS …

THS 88 on the Web

A reveiw of the events of the past week…

now this is something of a
change.  A first 100 percent web site only blog actually typed by me in a
long time.

How do you address or type about the
tragedy that we were all made aware of last week ???  Honestly, I’m not
good at this type of stuff — and I freely admit it.  Never gave much
thought or ever thought I’d be sharing such
news…  Upmost consideration in reporting this news and this
blog — I’ve known Dana since 1st
Grade, 35 years — ouch the big T-word for having known people
— in just 5 years it’ll be the F-words

These times are definitely trying
for Dana and her family — services in Germany on the 4th; travel thousands of
miles back to CenLA — as typical with airline connections, they made it, their
luggage didn’t — jet lag, though not necessarily as bad going backward under
normal circumstances, was a whole other ballgame.

It was good to have a THS presence at the funeral and reception,
as most others in attendance were probably adults (kinda funny type for us now)
known growing up.  Stephanie McKenzie
Mattison
and Laynie
(age 15 months) — a real cutie, and quite a handful — flew in from Dallas
(Plano), Della aka DeeDee LaCroix
Morris
drove in from Clear Lake (Houston), locals
included Jackie Hooter Harvey, Theresa Welch Peters, Emily Vercher Samples, Missy Smoot McKnight, Michelle Rollins, and Jenny Chandler Gremillion from THS 88 and Sheri Eberle from THS 89.  On a side note, it was good
to find out that at least some people still read my e-mails.

Dana appreciates your thoughts,
prayers, e-mails, FaceBook postings, etc, as you can imagine responding to all
will probably take a little time, but they have not gone unnoticed.  She
and the kids will be returning to Germany along with her dad, kids start school
in a couple of weeks, and she and dad will work on the transition to return
stateside.

If you wish to leave thoughts
or condolences, you can e-mail or FaceBook Dana direct or use the
Hixson Brothers link below.

THS 88: August 2010 News

I had intended to start this monthly update with something irreverent and possibly some chiding regarding how people don’t really use e-mail anymore, but sometimes plans even for something as insignificant as this monthly E-Letter brings sad news — today from the world of FaceBook.

Jennifer Maxwell via Lorrie Miller Stapor: Passing on sad news… For my THS ’88 Classmates.. this is Dana Weir’s husband. Our prayers are with Dana and her family at this time.
A member of Team Ramstein was killed in a motorcycle accident near Otterberg, Germany, at approximately 12:20 p.m. July 31. Lt. Col. John Witherow, 39 of Pollock, La.,was assigned to the 86th Medical Group and was stationed at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center since…

I think everything that can be said, is stated above.

Birthdays for August…

8-Aug Dan "Karate Man" Gilliland

13-Aug Tracye Robinson – Kaplan

15-Aug Emile "B" Canale

21-Aug Monique Vincent – Belvin

24-Aug Andy Shaw

24-Aug Tonia Johnson

27-Aug Tracy Henagan – Toups

28-Aug Jenny Chandler – Gremillion

29-Aug Stephanie McKenzie – Mattison

30-Aug Tanya Goodman – Ivey

31-Aug Cannon Mitchell

That wraps this edition up…  Remember Dana and Family in your prayers…

Until next time…
